SUPPORT READING
Help an adult who is learning to read, write and speak English!
Over 200 adults are enrolled in Rockwall County Library's Reading for Adults program. We have more that 80 volunteer tutors helping them learn to read, write and speak English or to pass vital exams. Those in the program are from Poland, Russia, China, Vietnam, Brazil, Pakistan, Bulgaria and Iran as well as Mexico and other Spanish-speaking countries. In 2005, 8 students obtained their U.S. citizenship, 10 earned a GED, and 6 passed the necessary exams and entered college.
Classes in the Reading for Adults program are free to participants; however, it costs approximately $150 a year to help each adult student by providing books and materials, supplies, tutor training, and operating costs for the program.
We need cash donations and people to attend tutor training and work with adult students.
