SUPPORT READING
Help an adult who is learning to read, write and speak English!
Over 300 adults are enrolled in Rockwall County Library's Reading for Adults program. We have more that 80 volunteer tutors helping them learn to read, write and speak English or to pass vital exams. Those in the program are from Poland, Russia, China, Vietnam, Brazil, Pakistan, Bulgaria and Iran as well as Mexico and other Spanish-speaking countries. Every year, some of our students obtain their U.S. citizenship, earn a GED, improve their English and literacy skills and obtain better employment, or pass the necessary exams and enter college.
Classes in the Reading for Adults program are free to participants except for a small materials fee; however, it costs approximately $150 a year to help each adult student by providing books and materials, supplies, tutor training, and operating costs for the program.
We need cash donations and people to attend tutor training and work with adult students.
